Descripton of skill execution
Dog's behaviuor at the block-station, its attitude to the front and to the rear The command Guard!, a directing gesture.
Before sending a dog to the post, a judge hides behind some cover suitable for him to watch a dog and situated at 15-20 m-distance from the block-station. The first assistant is in a shelter, at 70-80 m-distance (not less) ahead from the block-station.
The second judge (a sentry) is at 20 m-distance from the rear side of the block-station By judge. s command a trainer puts a dog on a chain of the block-station, leads it along the territory of the block-station from one side to another, then gives the command Guard! and a gesture towards the first assistant, and goes to a shelter situated at 15 m-distance from the rear side of the block-station. A dog must be on the alert and watch carefully the rear side of the block-station, it should not be distracted towards the gone assistant and react to other irritants as well.
The skill is considered as failed, if a dog is distracted towards the rear of the block-station and doesn. t stop barking in 5 minutes.
Barking distance, activity of barking, defence of the post and dog's barking (voice) In 5-10 minutes by judge. s command a specially dressed assistant begins to move towards the centre of the block-station. An assistant puts a signal flag before a dog begins to bark at him. Being at 20-25 m-distance from the block-station, an assistant changes the direction and goes to one of the posts of the block-station, comes up to a dog at 20-25 m-distance and goes on moving towards a post of the block-station trying to pass by it.
At the first assistant. s appearance a dog must bark at him loudly moving along the territory of the block-station according to the direction of assistant. s movement. When an assistant tries to pass by a post, a dog should attack him actively and make the strong grips, it shoudn. t be afraid of an assistant, stop barking or step back when an assistant tries to cross the block-station line. The skill is considered as failed, if a dog doesn. t bark at an assistant when he is closer than at 20 m-distance or, if a dog doesn. t make a grip.
Dog's attitude to the food thrown or put at the block-station An assistant, when trying to cross the block-station line, gives a dog a piece of dainty on a stretched hand and throws it to the ground. A dog must be indifferent to the food; it mustn. t take tthe food, be afraid of the thrown or offered food, or stop barking and attacking anassistant.
The skill is considered as failed, if a dog eats the given food.
Attitude to shooting As soon as a dog begins to attack an assistant actively and makes bite work, another assistant (a . sentry. ), by judge. s command, makes a shot. At a shot a dog mustn. t stop barking and attacking of an assistant who attacks a dog from the front.
By the judge. s command . Take a dog away!. a trainer runs out of the shelter, puts a dog on a lead, puts on a muzzle, undoes a chain and takes a dog away. If it is necessary, a trainer sets an assistant free, when a dog doesn. t stop bite work. The skill is consideered as failed, if a dog stops bite work or barking.
The block-station equipment To arrange the block-station two posts 15-20 cm in diameter are put at 30 m-distance from each other, the posts are dug in the ground at 1 m-depth. The post height should be 2 m, not less.
The wire 0,6 cm in diameter is stretched between the posts at 1,5-2 m height in such a way that it should be loose in the middle and hangs 1,5 m above the ground.
The wire before fastening to the posts is threaded through several rings, a chain of 2-2,5 m length is fastened to one of the rings (other rings are spare ones). The end of the wire is fastened to the posts in a specially machined groove or to a metal hoop. A restricting device is attached to the wire at 1,8-2 m-distance from every post, this device restricts a ring and doesn. t let a dog run behind the post ( the wire is twisted, an immovable ring is set and so on).
To fix the posts the guy-ropes are used.
The block-station territory is cleared from stones, bushes and so on. Trees may be used instead of the posts, or one end of the wiremay be fastened to a fence or to a wall, it depends on the local conditions, but all the parameters should be observed.
